With a vibrant and intriguing past, join us on a guided walking tour of Stromness, Orkney’s second-largest settlement.
  • Explore the narrow flagstone streets of Stromness, which are lined with typical Orcadian architecture.

  • With your knowledgeable guide, learn about the town’s maritime heritage and hear tales of Vikings and pirates.

  • Experience this thriving community and browse the local arts and crafts.

A journey into the past

On this walking tour, your guide will bring tales from Stromness’ diverse maritime history to life.

Stroll along the town’s long, winding main street, which is still paved with original flagstones, and admire the traditional houses that overlook the sea, having once had their own pier to trade directly with passing merchants. You’ll also learn about the notorious pirate John Gow, and you’ll discover how the town was once the final stop for ships before heading on the arduous journey across the Atlantic.

Then, explore some more at your own pace and perhaps visit the Pier Arts Centre.
