Grytviken - Grímsey Road Train Shuttle
Excursion
Free
Summer (Jun - Aug)
Enjoy a charming road train ride along the west coast of Grímsey, Iceland´s northernmost inhabited island.
See the original Arctic Circle marker and walk to the newer Orbis et Globus monument which marks the new boundary.
Admire magnificent scenery and look out for bird life like puffins and Arctic Terns.
Shuttle train
Catch the Grímsey road train directly at the port. This charming shuttle ride follows the only road on the island down to the lighthouse at the southernmost point, back up through the settlement, towards the original Arctic Circle marker, and you can hop on and off as you please.
As it moves a little each year, the newer Orbis et Globus monument at the north of the island now marks the boundary of the Arctic Circle. To see the impressive sphere monument, you can take a scenic 1.5-mile walk from the shuttle stop.
