Planned Itinerary
Day 1: From Copenhagen to Ilulissat (Greenland)
After an overnight stay in Copenhagen (included in your Greenland expedition cruise), you’ll take the morning flight to Ilulissat via Nuuk. Once you arrive in picturesque Ilulissat, you’ll take an hour-long boat ride through the ice-strewn waters towards Ilimanaq, your home for the next two nights.
With around 50 inhabitants and 186 miles north of the Arctic Circle, remote Ilimanaq is peaceful and pristinely beautiful. You’ll be staying at Ilimanaq Lodge, a cluster of modern bungalows perched on the clifftop, overlooking spine-tingling scenery at the mouth of Ilulissat Icefjord. You’ll be immersed in serenity and raw nature here; it’s even possible to spot whales from your bungalow if you’re lucky.
Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure before a delicious dinner in Restaurant Egede, located in the former residence of a 19th century missionary.
Day 2: Tundra hike
After breakfast, you’ll join us on a four-hour hike across the tundra towards Ilulissat Icefjord.
Throughout the hike, you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking views of the iceberg-filled Disko Bay. With your local guide, you’ll learn about the rich history of the area, and witness some of its several Inuit grave sites. As we hike, we’ll look out for wildlife such as arctic foxes, snow hares and musk oxen.
At the end of your memorable day, you’ll enjoy dinner back at the lodge and another overnight stay.
Day 3: From Ilimanaq Lodge to Ilulissat
Today, we’ll take a boat transfer back to Ilulissat and on to your base for tonight – a hotel on the shores of the UNESCO-listed Ilulissat Icefjord.
Moving at around 130 ft per day, the vast glacier here is one of the most active in the world, calving approximately 10% of Greenland’s icebergs.
You’ll enjoy lunch at the hotel and the afternoon at your leisure. Why not explore Ilulissat town, where you can browse the local crafts and try some traditional delicacies. Dinner is served back at the hotel.
Day 4: From Ilulisaat to Nuuk
After a morning flight to Nuuk, you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to the port where your ship awaits. It’s time to begin your expedition cruise.
Please note we may visit these sights in a different order.
