Viking monuments   

Visit Orkney’s largest island, Mainland, which is rich in prehistoric archaeology. See the fascinating Standing Stones of Stenness and the 5000-year-old Ring of Brodgar, part of UNESCO’s Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site. Your adventure then continues to the pretty fishing village of Stromness and the coastline of Scapa Flow, an important area in both World Wars.

Practical information

  • Remarks/requirements: Appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes. 

  • Walking information: Soft ground which is uneven in parts at the Ring of Brodgar. Monument can be seen from the car park where there are interpretation boards for guests not wishing to walk up to the monument.  The walk is 7 minutes each way (approx.  300m each way) to reach the entrance to the circle.  Walking in Stromness at the discretion of the guests.  There are no steps except on and off the coach. 

  • Wheelchair accessible: No.

  • Language: English.
