Growing Cacao 

This four-hour tour takes you to the Indigenous Ngäbe community to learn how they produce the famous ‘Criollo’ cacao beans, sought after by chocolatiers around the world. 

You’ll learn step-by-step how this resilient community plants the cacao trees, then harvests, roasts and grinds the beans, and produces delicious, traditional chocolate.  

Practical information

  • Included: One bottle of water 

  • Remarks/requirements: Please wear comfortable walking shoes. Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses are recommended. 

  • Walking or Activity information: Involves moderate physical activity on relatively level surfaces and gentle terrain. Includes approx. 0.12 miles of walking at the plantation. 

  • Wheelchair accessible: No
