Great introduction to Fjällbacka
Fjällbacka is a small fishing village in Tanum. The resort takes its name from the large rock mountain that characterizes the village. The old Fjällbacka turns beneath the mountain to the sea, while the newer buildings located on the fields towards land and on the mountains. Offshore, Fjällbacka archipelago rests and all the way out to the west is the Weather Islands located.
In this one hour guided walking tour you’ll listen to your local guide with passion for telling the tale of this beautiful village that has enchanted people from all over the world for more than 60 years. But the history of the Fjällbacka Archiplelago starts much earlier – about 860 million years ago the continental shelfs were still moving and granite was created by magma erupting from the center of the earth…
Walking the narrow streets, some as old as 350 years, the guests will see the first, tiny little factory where the first anchovies in the world was made in the 1840´s. From the impressive church, built in 1892, there is a magnificent view over the harbour. On Södra Hamngatan Ingrid Bergman was standing in line among locals to buy cinnamon rolls in the 1960´s. All visitors walking here notice the granite stonework of local stone cutters, literally walking on the stones that has been grounded by feets for over a hundred years.
