A journey back in time
This tour takes you to Karmøy Island and the ancient landscapes of Avaldnes – homeland of Viking Kings and Norway’s birthplace.
Settlements in this historic village date back to the early Bronze Age. Its strategic location has long been a power centre, controlling ships along ‘Nordvegen’ – the shipping route from which Norway takes its name. Delve into the area’s rich history at Nordvegen History Centre, and on the nearby small island of Bukkøy, discover more about Viking farmers, fishermen, craftsmen and merchants at a reconstructed Viking farm.
