Life-Changing Adventure
When you explore Alaska with us, you’ll see the Alaska that few tourists get to see. Fancy a zodiac tour near waterfalls? How about meeting the locals? Feel like kayaking? Interested in history? Do the Aleutian Islands spark your interest? Are you a birder? Curious about the 49th state? With us, you’ll see and experience more than just a stop in a tourist town – you’ll see, feel, and immerse yourself in all that coastal Alaska has to offer and return with not only the memories of a cool trip, but a fresh perspective on our world.
Science Center & Citizen Science Program
When you sail to Alaska with us, you’re not only an explorer, you’re a scientist. With opportunities to interact with scientists onboard, you’ll also have the chance to participate in citizen science projects in whale research, weather, birds, and water sampling.
Expedition Team
Comprised of local experts, naturalists, historians, researchers, ornithologists, and other scientists, your Expedition Team is with you every step of the way. They’ll offer lectures, facilitate projects, and learn with you on the ship, on small boat adventures, and other adventures, like hiking, glacier exploration, and kayaking. You won’t just see Alaska, you’ll feel it and understand it with your Expedition Team.
Aleutian Islands
With some of the best itineraries exploring the Aleutian Islands, you’ll stop at rarely visited ports and learn about local culture first hand. You’ll also have the opportunity to immerse yourself in WWII history, and have unmatched opportunities for some of the best birding in the world.
Birding
Our Alaska expedition cruises visit some of the most remote corners of the country – and take you to some of the best spots to spot rare birds. Catch a glimpse of McKay’s Bunting on St. Matthew Island, this rare bird’s main nesting site. Spot a rare Arctic sea duck, like Steller’s Eider, or any number of auklets, albatrosses, hawks, eagles, herons, falcons, scaups, and more.
Wildlife
With habitats ranging from tundra to rainforest and coastline, Alaska is rich in wildlife. Depending on the season, you’re as likely to see eagles, bears, and salmon as you are orcas, humpback whales, and grey whales, not to mention Dall sheep, moose, sea otters, and hundreds of bird species.
Culture
About 15 percent of Alaska’s residents are Alaska Native, with 20 different cultures and 300 different dialects. There are five groups of Alaska Native people, identified by the regions where they live: Iñupiat & ST. Lawrence Island Yup’ik in the Arctic, Athabascan in Southcentral and Interior Alaska, Yup’ik and Cup’ik, Unangax̂ and Sugpiaq in the Southwest, and Eyak, Haida, Tsimshian, and Tlingit in the Inside Passage. In every region and community, Alaskan Native language, artwork, storytelling, ceremonies, and customs make an impact on the Alaskan experience.
