This tour is strictly on bike and will allow you to explore the scenic and unique landscape surrounding Skagen, as well as parts of Skagen itself. Leave the pier and bike through the western part of Skagen to the protected area on the east coast. Feel ‘on your own’, with the only sounds being the wind, bird song, and waves splashing at the shores. Meanwhile, enjoy narration from your guide. Hiding in the dunes, you will be pass the Buried Church. The church was built in the 1300s and was, in its time, the largest church of the region. The ‘Great Sand Drift’ started in the 1500s and two centuries later, the sand reached the church. During this period, the congregation had to dig their way into the church each Sunday morning. The struggle against the sand continued up until 1795, when the church was closed by royal decree. Today, only the tower of the famed church is visible. We then continue westward to idyllic Old Skagen, dominated by characteristic yellow houses, many of which are former fishermen’s cottages. Take in views of the roaring North Sea before biking to the northern part of Skagen for a glimpse of the residential areas and community gardens. Then it’s a short ride along the beach road to the marina, and the cruise pier beyond.
