Maya and Mangroves
Immerse yourself in the lush mangroves and littoral forest as you walk the hour-long nature trail at stunning Calabash Caye.
As you stroll, you'll encounter the towering Calabash tree. Though it appears native, it was likely planted by Maya from the Belize mainland. You’ll discover other evidence of the Maya too, such as mounds of coral and shells thought to be former fishing camps. Continuing your exploration, look out for iguanas and vibrant blue land crabs, and drink in the sound of tropical birdsong. Climb the Bird Tower to take in the majesty of this incredible ecosystem from above.
