One of the best short walks in Scotland.
Nevis Gorge.
One of the best short walks in Scotland, this route heads through the dramatic and beautiful Nevis Gorge and leads to the awesome Steall Falls. After a short drive, your walk starts by heading straight into an attractive deciduous woodland. The rough and rocky path then leads through the Gorge, where you can glimpse tremendous rocky mountainsides through the trees. At one stream, the path is cut out of the rock itself and heads around the corner on a wide ledge. Beyond, you have your first glimpse of the white line of Steall Falls through the gorge. The valley then narrows considerably with occasional views below of the river crashing over the fallen boulders. The glen suddenly broadens to a grassy meadow blooming with wildflowers and surrounded by steep, wooded mountainsides. The crowning glory is the Steall Falls, now seen directly ahead across the meadow.Continue to the main path until you reach then bend, where the glen curves to the left and the path approaches the river. This is the best spot for admiring the great falls. They are the third-highest falls in Scotland, cascading 344 feet down the rockface. It is a tremendous sight, particularly during river surges. Rising above the falls is A Gearanach, a Munro peak and the on the Ring of Steall. This is the starting point for many mountain excursions.
You will return to the bus along the same route.
