Great introduction to Fjällbacka
Fjällbacka is a small fishing village in Tanum. The resort takes its name from the large rock mountain that is iconic in the village. Old Fjällbacka turns beneath the mountain to the sea, while newer buildings are located on the fields toward land and on the mountains. The Fjällbacka archipelago rests offshore, with the Weather Islands located far to the west.
On this one-hour guided walking tour, your passionate local guide will tell tales of this beautiful village, which has enchanted people from all over the world for more than 60 years. The history of the Fjällbacka Archipelago dates back about 860 million years, while the continental shelfs were still moving and granite was created by magma erupting from the center of the earth.
Walking the narrow streets, some as old as 350 years, guests can see the tiny little factory where the first anchovies in the world were made in the 1840´s. Enjoy magnificent views over the harbor from the impressive church, built in 1892. On Södra, Hamngatan Ingrid Bergman often stood in line with the locals to buy cinnamon rolls in the 1960´s. Visitors can notice the granite stonework of local stone cutters by walking on the same stones that have been ground down by feet for over a century.
Many famous Swedes have a deep connection to Fjällbacka. Ingrid Bergman called Fjällbacka her paradise on earth. Maybe it will be yours, too.
