Łingít and Petroglyphs
Join your Alaskan guide on a journey through time to learn about the history of Wrangell’s first nation, the Łingít.
You’ll be welcomed into Chief Shakes Tribal House, a traditional cedar ceremonial structure with totems and beautiful carvings. You’ll learn about the heritage of the Łingít people here, and you’ll hear legends that have been passed down through generations.
Then, discover ancient petroglyphs while combing Petroglyph Beach. You can also delve even deeper into the history of the island as you explore Wrangell Museum at your leisure.

Remarks/requirements: Please dress according to the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Please note that flash photography is not permitted inside the museum.
Walking or Activity information: Involves physical activity on uneven surfaces and/or steep terrain. Includes limited walking at each stop and down a wheelchair-accessible ramp to the Petroglyph Beach viewing deck.
Wheelchair accessible: Yes. Petroglyph Beach itself is not wheelchair accessible, but the observation deck is. Shuttle buses are suitable for collapsible wheelchairs only.
