  • Free time in Mont Saint-Michel

Depart the pier for a one-hour drive to Mont Saint-Michel, a monument often regarded as a ‘Marvel of the Western World’. On the approach, marvel at the spectacular granite mount with its abbey soaring high above the sea. Upon arrival at the bus parking area, proceed on foot to the shuttle bus, then board the bus for the transfer to the village entrance.

Ancient ramparts surround the base of the mount, and a jumble of houses line the narrow streets. Your guide will lead you through the village itself, its hidden places, and to the ramparts of the Mont. Then, you will go up the cobblestone street (and 365 steps) to access the famous abbey. En route, admire the diverse architecture of Mont Saint-Michel, which was founded in the 10th century as the result of a dream vision. The abbey was added three centuries later. At its very top gleams the gilded statue of Saint-Michel. Upon entering the abbey, walk up another 197 steps and begin your guided tour of its interior.

After descending back down to the village, you will have some free time to explore at your leisure. Then you will rejoin your guide and head back to the bus parking area.
