Guided tour of Oban
McCaig’s Tower
St. Columba’s Cathedral
Seaside town
Depart the pier on foot for a guided tour of Oban. Walk up the steep hill to McCaig’s Tower, commissioned by a local banker and philanthropist to provide winter work for the local stonemasons. The steep climb is well worth the effort for the views over the busy harbor and out to the nearby islands. This route returns you to the seafront and leads to St Columba’s cathedral, the seat of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Argyll and the Isles. The cathedral’s simple interior contrasts with the bold exterior, made of pink Peterhead and blue Inverawe granite.
Explore this bustling seaside town at your leisure or return to the pier with the guide.
