Visit to Pasajes San Pedro
Welcome talk by the director of the Museum
VIP visit to Albaola, the Basque Maritime Factory
Tasting of local products
Albaola is a non-profit association whose aim is to safeguard the maritime heritage and the traditional trades of the sea, which are almost lost. They build vessels of heritage value in front of visitors, among them the Nao San Juan, a 16th century whaler, whose construction work has won the patronage of UNESCO.
In addition to their focus on keeping heritage alive and opening their doors to anyone who wants to participate, they are also concerned with passing on knowledge to future generations. That’s why they created an international school of shipwrights’ carpentry. Apprentices from around the world come to this small corner of the Basque Country to learn this almost-lost trade, for three years, free of charge.
SUSTAINABLE TOURISM AWARD 2018, NAMED ASSOCIATION OF PUBLIC INTEREST IN 2019, EGURTEK award, UNESCO sponsorship, and for every €10 invested, they have managed to give back up to €10 to our environment. In addition, 90% of workers and suppliers are from the region.
After the visit, we will enjoy a tasting of local products.
Don’t miss this unique experience!
*While we're excited to share the unique flavors of this region with you, it’s important to note that allergy awareness and hygiene standards can vary widely across the world. The local community providing food for this tour may not be as familiar with allergy concerns or preparation standards as suppliers in your home country or the expert chefs onboard our ships. As a precaution, we advise anyone with a severe food allergy to contact a member of the onboard Expedition Team before booking this excursion.
