Day 1: From Puntarenas to La Fortuna
After disembarking from your expedition ship in Puntarenas, you'll meet your local guide, who’ll accompany you on the two-hour journey to your hotel near La Fortuna in the Arenal Volcano area. Set among 900 acres of lush tropical reserve, La Fortuna is home to Costa Rica’s largest network of naturally flowing hot springs. Once we arrive, we’ll have lunch, and then you’ll have the rest of the day and evening to enjoy the facilities of the hotel or indulge in the volcanic hot springs at your leisure.
Day 2: Exploring the rainforest around Arenal Volcano
Today’s action-packed itinerary begins right after breakfast. Bask in the sights and the sounds of the rainforest as we paddle the Peñas Blancas River. Quietly rowing our way downriver, we’ll look out for monkeys, sloths, iguanas, crocodiles and tropical birds with the help of our bilingual guide. Be sure to bring your camera and binoculars!
After lunch at a local restaurant in Fortuna village, get ready to explore the forest from the top of the trees.
The Arenal Hanging Bridges form a two-mile trail through the rainforest canopy that allows you to take in nature’s beauty and serenity from above. With 15 interconnecting bridges up to 145 feet high, you’ll get incredible 360-degree views of the tropical rainforest, and if the weather is on your side, we may even see Arenal Volcano itself.
Your day ends with a relaxing evening spent at your leisure and an overnight stay.
Day 3: La Paz Waterfall Garden and on to San José
In the morning, we’ll take a two-hour drive to La Paz Waterfall Gardens.
Located within private parkland at an altitude of 4,200 to 5,200 ft, this nature park and animal sanctuary offers lush tropical rainforest, flowing white rivers, spectacular waterfalls and plenty of safe walking trails. Don’t miss the butterfly garden or the hummingbird garden, which is home to 26 different species and offers hand-feeding in the mornings and afternoons. The other attractions include a small serpentarium with native snakes and a wild animal section with jaguars, pumas, ocelots, jaguarundi and margays.
After lunch, we’ll continue to San José, the capital city of Costa Rica, where you’ll enjoy an overnight stay. The rest of the day is at your leisure.
Day 4: The end of your adventure
After breakfast at your hotel, your Post-Program comes to an end.
Please note that the order of sights might vary.
