Big friendly giants

Along Northern California’s coast lies a row of protected nature areas. The Redwood National and State Parks contain shores, prairies, waterfalls and forests. Journey along a portion of the Avenue of the Giants, and marvel at the beauty of the sequoias, the world’s most massive trees. Admire the forest up close as you hike through the awe-inspiring surroundings.

  • Remarks/requirements: Sturdy walking shoes recommended. Dress in layers 

  • Wheelchair accessible: No 

  • Walking information: A very short amount of walking (~100 yards) will be done at the first two sites, Drury Chaney Trail (very flat and wide trail) and Grieg-French-Bell Grove (trail through small mounds, some uneven ground). A total of 1.3 miles may be walked at Founder’s Grove (beginning sections that are relatively flat and otherswith some uneven ground. No significant elevation gain. Big Tree Trail and Homestead Trail (2.4 miles total) has some uneven ground, mostly gentle rise and fall trail with no significant elevation gain.
