The short mile walk

Join this fascinating pier walk to a picturesque lighthouse from 1902. The granite stone pier is almost a mile long, so be sure to bring good walking shoes. The lighthouse is built of red bricks. Attached is the keeper’s white house with green shutters, typical for this area. As you walk this small mile away from land, scout for shorebirds and harbour seals.

Practical information

  • Language: English

  • Remarks/requirements: Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Dress warmly. There is always a breeze on the breakwater and as you approach the lighthouse (almost a mile “out to sea”) there is a noticeable decrease in temperature.

  • Walking information: Almost one mile to the lighthouse but at guests discretion if they want to go the complete way.  Note: Walk is level but on uneven surface. There are some gaps between blocks. Granite blocks can be slippery when wet.

  • Wheelchair accessible: No
