History and Heights

We’ll begin with a short transfer by 4x4 vehicle to reach Þórarinsstaðir archaeological site, where the remains of a medieval church and graveyard lie.

Then we’ll continue on to the 1,250-hectare Skálanes nature reserve. A former farmstead, the reserve is brimming with life, and the 2,224-foot coastal cliffs are home to thousands of birds in season, including eiders and Arctic terns. Walk up to the viewpoint to admire the awe-inspiring vistas, and keep an eye out for whales and seals who can sometimes be spotted in the waves below.
