Enjoy a fantastic walk on the coastal footpath and spot birds, plants, and a range of historical highlights.
  • Walk the long-distance coastal path.

  • Fantastic sights

  • Historic highlights throughout the tour

  • Enjoy views of the ‘Plains of Heaven’ across the central valley to the northern hills.

Starting from the Sea Terminal in Douglas, we will cross the Fairy Bridge and greet the ‘little people’ to ensure a good journey. After a nice break in Castletown, we will visit Chapel Hill Balladoole and follow part of the ‘Raad ny Foillan’ (the Way of the Gull), the Isle of Man’s long-distance coastal footpath, around Scarlett Head to see coastal birds, plants, limestone outcrops, and volcanic rocks. Then we head back to Castletown. The exposed southern coast is full of historic sites and traces of ancient forts and chapels, countryside properties, farms, a World War II radar station, and the quarry that provided stone for the steps of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.

The tour’s historic highlights include Chapel Hill, Balladoole, home to a Bronze Age burial, an Iron Age hillfort, a Viking ship burial and Keeill Vael (St Michael’s Chapel). Enjoy sweeping views over the south of the Island and the Iron Age and Norse promontory fort at Close ny Chollagh.

After a break in Castletown, rejoin the coach and return to Douglas on a route featuring views over the ‘Plains of Heaven’ and across the central valley to the northern hills.
