Maeva Accart | Assistant Expedition Leader

Joining Hurtigruten has allowed Maeva to live and share her lifelong passion for our blue planet with guests right around the world - even giving her one of the most memorable experiences of her life.

For the love of our blue planet

Since childhood, Maeva had a passion for the sea and all the beautiful, weird, and wonderful animals that call it home - in particular whales and dolphins. This passion lead her to study for a Masters in Marine Science, and later start working alongside the conservation charity ORCA. Her first taste of life onboard a Hurtigruten ship, was when she joined a few sailings as an ORCA representative in the early days of our partnership with them. In her own words, this was the best trip of her life and when the opportunity to join as a permanent member of staff came around in 2020, she knew this was the right choice for her.

Being onboard our Expedition Ships, Maeva has been fortunate to travel the world sharing her passion for marine life and our blue planet with the guests onboard. Her best marine experience came in Antarctica when she was out exploring with a group of guests on zodiacs in Paradise Bay. Suddenly a pod of around 15 Humpback Whales appeared and started lunge feeding (the whale breech the surface of the water with their mouths open catching as much Krill as possible). Whilst this was a special moment for her, she still remembers seeing the faces of those on her tender boat and, in some cases, the tears as they shared this magical experience.

Having been fortunate to follow her passion for marine life around the world, Maeva now feels at home whilst on board MS Maud and other expeditions ships within our fleet, and is looking forward to spending the next few years exploring the world and sharing her passion with others.

Guest story | Returning guests

Having been a part of the Hurtigruten family for a few years now, Maeva’s had the opportunity to meet many guests. Recently, returning guests have started to recognise her from previous sailings, and for Maeva, having the chance to reconnect with guests and see the positive impact she’s had on them is extremely rewarding

FAQ | Is this a job for life?

Maeva feels right at home on the sea, being with her second family and living her passion on a daily basis. She is often asked, 'Is this something you will be doing for the rest of your life?', and the answer is pretty simple - I hope so!

Favourite Activity | Small boat cruising

Hands down, her favourite activity is getting to take guests out on the small boats to explore the local area. This offers an intimate opportunity to better share her passion for marine life with our guests, bringing them closer to the natural world and the places we visit.
